The basics of tasting wine are relatively simple to learn. Once the fundamentals are mastered, the nuances and details can be enhanced over a lifetime. Like any other skill, tasting wine requires practice, and consistency is probably the most important factor.
One helpful strategy an aspiring wine taster can pursue is tasting with a friend that has superior knowledge. Questions can be addressed, and you will quickly become comfortable with this unnecessarily intimidating subject.
Another important strategy for a beginning wine taster is to taste several wines side-by-side that share at least one common variable. This could be the varietal, style, AVA of origin, or any combination of the three.
Tasting blind will minimize any prior opinions or stereotypes. You may be surprised to discover that less-expensive wines are more pleasing to you.
The Essentials of Tasting Wine
It is imperative that you taste in spotlessly clean glasses. The most common contaminants in unclean glasses are invisible molecules left behind by cleaning products. Even high-end restaurants can be guilty of this faux pas. It is best to thoroughly hand wash glasses with unabrasive soaps and hot water.
It is beneficial, but not necessary to use varietal-specific glasses when tasting wine. Research has shown that the shape of glasses really does make a difference in the sensory experience.
Overview of the Tasting Process
Wine tasting employs much more than just the taste buds, although they are very important. Your palate is a term for how taste buds on your tongue translate particular flavors to your brain. The palate can perceive only four basic flavors: sweetness, sourness, saltiness, and bitterness. Most of the subtle flavor components of wine are actually picked up by one’s sense of smell.
Although many of our daily perceptions are unconscious, making a concerted effort to pay attention to several things makes the tasting process more educational and rewarding. Despite the mystique that surrounds many wine “experts”, tasting wine can be broken into simple steps. Wine knowledge usually stems from practice and confidence, not any inherent superiority.
Of course, some people have more developed senses than others. An extreme example is Robert Parker, widely regarded as the most influential wine critic in the world. Mr. Parker’s tasting ability is derived from his natural ability to be keenly aware of his senses.
It is within the grasp of the vast majority of people to confidently differentiate varietals, styles, flavor profiles, and flaws when tasting wine. Tasting wine requires not only a grasp of your senses, but also the ability to articulate (with the proper vernacular) your thoughts about a particular wine.
Relevance of Sight in Tasting Wine
Your sense of sight will reveal a lot about a particular wine before smelling and tasting it. Immediately after pouring, check to see how clear the wine is. While haziness may simply indicate a full-bodied, unfiltered red wine, in any other style it is usually cause for concern. Wines will often taste the way that they look (an unrefined look may indicate a clumsy, unfocused wine).
Viewing the color of the edge of a wine in a glass will give you an indication of its maturity (or lack thereof). Mature, aged-worthy reds will have a deep crimson, or even brownish look. Too much brown usually means that the wine is past its prime. the rim of a white wine will generally be light yellow in youth, and and progress to an amber color with age.
After your initial visual impressions, swirl the wine in your glass. While this may be tricky at first, you will pick it up quickly. This reveals the “legs”. The more wine sticks to the side of a glass, the higher the alcohol content.
The Role of the Sense of Smell During Wine Tasting
As mentioned earlier, many of the subtle “tastes” of wine are actually perceived by your sense of smell. While there are only four perceptible tastes, there are thousands of different scents. Revealingly, sinus congestion will stop even the most experienced and accomplished wine taster in his/her tracks. Smell is perceived through the upper nose as well as through the back of the throat. Molecules of different scents are registed by the olfactory bulb in the sinuses.
Before smelling a wine, swirl the glass again to reveal the aroma. When smelling a wine, attempt to put any familiar aromas into the context of previous tastings. This is the fundamental basis for increasing your knowledge of tasting wine.
After smelling the wine, the majority of registered perceptions occur very quickly. Sense of smell is very delicate and easily overwhelmed. Smelling the same thing repeatedly becomes less and less revelatory in rapid succession. If you do not immediately pick out the array of aromas in a wine, relax for a minute or two, then try again.
The Actual Tasting Begins
After experiencing the aroma of a wine, it is logically time to taste. Swirl the wine once more, and then swallow a small sip. After your initial impression, take a slightly larger sip and make an effort to coat your entire mouth. This is called, “chewing” the wine. Before swallowing, aerate the wine in your mouth. While this makes a slightly strange sound, the enhanced flavors and aromas that are released are more than worth it.
Another important component in the tasting process is touch, or how the wine feels in your mouth. Major variables to be aware of are the body of the wine, serving temperature, and astringency. The body of a wine includes the depth of flavor and alcohol content. If these components are underrepresented, a wine will taste dilluted.
Serving temperature is an important variable that mainly hinges on the varietal(s) that compose a particular wine. A crisp Sauvignon Blanc will taste flat at room temperature, and should be chilled. On the contrary, a well-aged Cabernet Sauvignon will not reveal its true complexity when served too cold. The incorrect serving temperature for a wine will adversely affect both the aroma and flavor.
Astringency is basically a synonym for bitterness, and is caused by excessive or unmellowed tannins. Great red wines often taste astringent in their youth, but develop into opulent masterpieces when mature.
I hope that you believe that proper wine tasting skills are within your reach; because they certainly are. Mankind’s ancient enjoyment of wine is largely derived from the fact that our senses, feelings, and preferences are the basic components of what makes us human.

As a certified NLP trainer, I am often asked, “What is NLP?”
The term NLP stands for neuro-linguistic programming and was coined in the early seventies by John Grinder, an assistant professor of linguistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and Richard Bandler, a student of psychology at the university. They began their work by studying Fritz Perls, a psychotherapist and originator of the Gestalt school of therapy, Virginia Satir, a well-known family therapist and Milton Erickson, a world-famous hypnotherapist. Their intention was to model outstanding therapists and identify patterns in order that other practitioners could use these patterns to generate similar results. It may be said that NLP is about identifying excellence through an exploration of patterns, and then devising means for others to use those patterns to achieve similar results.
NLP also draws on earlier work, such as Ivan Pavlov’s conditioned reflexes (1904). In NLP this is called anchoring. NLP takes theoretical results developed by others and makes them available to you and me so we can improve our lives and well-being.
NLP is more than just techniques. It is a curiosity about how people who are high achievers accomplish what they actually set out to do. It is also a methodology that assists you in discovering those thinking and communication patterns that prevent you from being successful and shows you how to achieve the results of successful people. That is, NLP is a process of discovering the patterns of excellence of experts, and it makes these effective ways of thinking and communicating available for others to use for their own benefit or to assist others.
NLP had its origins in therapy and is now applied in all areas of human endeavor - education, health, sports, business and, perhaps most importantly, interpersonal relations.
Let us break down and analyze the terms neuro-linguistic programming.
Neuro refers to your neurology - sense organs. It is about how you absorb information. For example, you use your eyes to see things in your world. You also experience or perceive events through your other senses: aural (hearing), kinesthetic (tactile touch or emotional feeling), gustatory (taste) and olfactory (smell).
Linguistic refers to the language - pictures, sounds, feelings (kinesthetic), tastes, smells and words - that you use to remember and make sense of a particular experience (or to forecast a future experience). For example, can you recall your breakfast this morning? When you remember having breakfast, can you see a picture in your mind, or can you hear sounds (perhaps a radio was on or you were engaged in a discussion with your family)? What about tastes and smells? And how were you feeling - happy, tired, excited?
Think about a significant event in your near future. Do you envision yourself being successful? Or failing? The pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells and words that you use to describe future experiences have a bearing on what actually happens. You do create your own reality!
Programming refers to your habits, patterns, programs and strategies. If it is a workday, do you follow a particular routine as you get ready for work? Perhaps you like to lie in bed an extra five minutes after the alarm goes off. Do you shower or bathe right away or have breakfast first? If you take time to look at what you do, I am certain you will see a pattern that you follow in getting ready for work. If for some reason you do not follow that pattern, do you find yourself feeling that something is missing?
You have patterns, habits, strategies and programs for everything you do. Some of these patterns serve you, but others do not - resulting in unwanted outcomes. You may be fully aware of some of your patterns. You may become aware of others only when someone else brings them to your attention. And you may choose to quickly forget about these patterns because you want to avoid addressing that part of your life. And there are still other patterns that you are not aware of at all, yet they continue to influence how you look after yourself, communicate with others and perform your daily tasks. If the patterns serve you - that is, generate positive results in your life - great! However, if you find that some patterns do not serve you, would it not be useful to identify those patterns and to change them so they work to your advantage?
Question: Who put your patterns, habits, strategies and programs in place? Of course, you did. So who can change them? Only you. But first, you must become aware that you run these patterns. This is one of the biggest benefits of NLP - becoming aware of the patterns, habits, strategies and programs that you have been running unconsciously and then using NLP techniques to change them in order to achieve the outcomes you desire.

What are your kids drinking? Are they consuming large amounts of sugary sodas or some of the high caffeine energy drinks on the market today? It’s well known that the younger generation’s problem with obesity stems largely from their eating and drinking habits coupled along with lack of exercise. Things like the fast food industry, vending machines at schools have made it too easy for kids to acquire bad eating and drinking habits. Kids are now turning to the latest trend of energy drinks with the idea that it will be a healthier choice for them. This may not be the case
Energy drinks beverages like Red Bull, Venom, Adrenaline Rush, 180, ISO Sprint, and Whoopass, contain large doses of caffeine and other stimulants like ephedrine or guarana. Energy drinks may contain as much as 80 mg of caffeine, the equivalent of a cup of coffee. Compared to the 37 mg. of caffeine in a Mountain Dew, or the 23 mg. in a Coca-Cola Classic, that’s a big punch. These drinks are marketed to people under 30, especially to college students, and are widely available both on and off campus.
Individual responses to caffeine vary, and these drinks should be treated carefully because of how powerful they are. Energy drinks’ stimulating properties can boost the heart rate and blood pressure (sometimes to the point of palpitations), dehydrate the body, and, like other stimulants, prevent sleep. Energy drinks should not be used while exercising as the combination of fluid loss from sweating and the diuretic quality of the caffeine can leave the user severely dehydrated.
Some young people use energy drinks as mixers with alcohol. This combination can be extremely dangerous. The stimulant effect can give the person the impression they’re not impaired. No matter how alert they feel, their blood alcohol concentration is the same as it would be without the energy drink. Once the stimulant effect wears off, the depressant effects of the alcohol will remain and could cause vomiting while asleep or respiratory depression. Both energy drinks and alcohol are very dehydrating (the caffeine in energy drinks is a diuretic). Dehydration can hinder the body’s ability to metabolize alcohol and will increase the toxicity, and therefore, the hangover.
Dr. Michael Hirt, a California physician, is more worried about the smaller number of drinks that contain the drug ephedrine, a stimulant occasionally used in energy drinks that is also included in decongestants. Combined with caffeine, he says, ephedrine has been proven to cause deadly heart problems. Many drinks also contain guarana or extract from its seeds, yet another source of caffeine. “It just becomes more of a witches brew. You’re playing with things that we don’t really understand and the long-term consequences are unclear,” says Hirt, medical director at the Center for Integrative Medicine at the Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center in Encino, Calif.

Setting goals
Setting personal and business goals are a must if you want to experience the benefit of time management. Setting goals outlines your intentions for what you plan to do and makes it real to you.
Goals are not results!
Many people are afraid to set goals because they are afraid of what happens if they “fail” to achieve them. They believe that it negatively affects their self-image.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
One of the most positive aspects of setting personal and professional goals is what not achieving a goal teaches you. If you don’t achieve a goal, there can be any number of reasons why, some of which are beyond your control. However, examining why it was not achieved will yield valuable insights into your beliefs, attitudes and emotions.
Goal setting and motivation
You need to feel desire about your goal. Motivation is desire. Do something because you really want to. You can use all the best techniques for goal setting and planning, but if the desire is not there then:
You’re less likely to achieve the goal
You feel a sense of emptiness about it if you do
Write your goals down!
Write your goals down (or draw, paint them, etc). It helps to make them real where you can see them, rather than swirling about endlessly in your head, where they have no outlet. This will also help to keep you on track. The phrasing of goals is also very important. Phrase them in the present, so you can act as if they’re already happening. This programs your brain to start working towards it. Use “I am….” instead of “I will…”. The latter refers to some indeterminate time in the future, which may never happen. The former keeps you firmly focused in the here and now, while keeping the future in sight. Also remember that just because a goal is written down, doesn’t mean that it is set in stone! You are always free to change and modify your goals as your circumstances change.
Focus on the results you expect to gain
Your job is to learn how to direct this power by consciously focusing to get the outcomes you want. First, you have to discover all the things you focus on that you do not want and I’m willing to bet there are quite a few, way more than you think. Then, you have to get very clear about what you DO want. You have to examine each of the things you want and be sure that they are not just something you do NOT want in disguise. For instance, saying: “I want my business to make over $100,000/year” would no longer be an issue if you had not had previous businesses that did not do that well, and so even in making this seemingly positive statement, you are focusing on not wanting to be unsuccessful. Saying “I want a reliable car” wouldn’t even come up if you weren’t focusing on the fact that you don’t want a car that breaks down and needs a lot of repairs. Remember, focus on positive results and drop the history of former experiences that were negative.
The Solution? Practice, Persistence, Practice
It’s a good idea to write down what you want specifically. Read what you have written to yourself, preferably aloud, several times a day, while seeing yourself, in your mind, already having what you want. A good example of this would be: “I get things done timely,” “I get things done timely,” “I get things done timely.” It could also be something like: “I am the best organizer around,” “I am the best organizer around,” “I am the best organizer around.” Then, take whatever action is available to begin moving towards what you want. A good time to do this reading and visualizing is when you first wake up and right before you go to bed.

Schools are out and all the children are home. You hear the constant whine of “Mom, I’m hungry” even though you just fed them not but an hour ago. You are still knee deep in laundry and don’t have time to stop and fix another meal. What are you going to do? That’s simple! Enlist their help and let them make themselves some quick snack ideas that even a child can make! The best benefit of these easy snacks is that they contain no honey, no sugar and no artificial sweeteners.
Strawberry Squash: Besides just eating strawberries plain, your children may enjoy making their own strawberry jam. Give each child a strawberry. Have them wash the strawberry, remove the stem and place the strawberry on a small plate. Each child can then chop the strawberry with a butter knife and squash it with a fork. Give your children each a piece of lightly toasted bread and have them spread on some peanut butter. They can then spoon on their homemade strawberry squash and enjoy a quick, healthy treat.
Banana Slices: Again, your children can slice their own bananas using a butter knife. Have them soak the banana slices in a little orange juice for a short while to give them extra flavor.
Fruit Pops: This idea needs to be done ahead of time but your children will have fun making them all by themselves. Freeze fruit juice in ice trays or a muffin tin. Use toothpicks or recycled Popsicle sticks for handles. For another variation, take a cup of seedless watermelon chunks, one cup of orange juice and one cup of water and freeze this mixture.
Orange/Strawberry Smoothies: Older children will have no problem combining a cup of orange juice, two ice cubes and two strawberries in a blender and pushing the button. This makes a refreshing and healthy drink after an afternoon of bike riding.
Sandwich Roll Ups: Let your children roll a rolling pin over a piece of bread to flatten it out. Next, let them spread on a sandwich spread such as peanut butter and smashed bananas. Next, have them roll their bread slices up to eat. You can also make these roll ups ahead of time and store them in waxed paper in the refrigerator for quick hand out.
Most of all, let them “help” you to ease the amount of time you need to spend in the kitchen, give them a sense of accomplishment, and also keep their little hands busy for at least five or ten minutes!

The NCAA has a rule designed to keep student athletes from switching schools after they receive a scholarship. The rule states that if an Athlete switches schools he must not play sports his first year with his new school. Unfortunately many athletes will not be able to play sports in 2005-2006 because they attend school in the Hurricane Katrina Disaster relief area.
Colleges all over the country are stepping up and offering admission to students from the hurricane Katrina Disaster area. Many of these colleges are admitting these students free of charge, if they already paid tuition at one of the Gulf Coast Colleges.
The NCAA needs to rethink the 1 year ineligibility rule for these Gulf Coast Student Athletes. It is not the fault of the athlete that their school cannot provide the education services in the wake of one of the worst disasters in world history.
When most Americans are reaching out to help the Hurricane Katrina Victims, why does the NCAA have to victimize the student athletes further, While it is understandable that the NCCA doesn’t want to cause a mass exodus of athletes from these schools, it will happen anyway. What choice do the athletes have, Transfer and sit out of athletics for a year or sit out of athletics and education indefinitely while their school rebuild. Clearly the majority of athletes will transfer and take the 1 year penalty, what real choice do they have?
Why Can’t the NCCA create a special status of visiting student athlete good until a Students Athletes home school is ready to resume their athletic program? A visiting student athlete would be able to play at it’s host school under a special gulf coast visitor status until their school was ready to resume academic and athletic programs. When heir home school was ready to resume activities they would return to their home school as a student athlete in good standing. If they choose to stay at the host school after this then the 1 year ineligibility rule could come into play.

I believe it is possible to design a pilot-less hydro-electric blimp which would have a propulsion system which never requires fuel and would be based on a Perpetual Motion Machine which uses fluid dynamics in a hydro-electric. First the shape of this thing would be similar to the new shopping mall shade cover on the Las Vegas Strip. An oblong flying saucer shape would be two of these, which would be stacked like pancakes. They would be apart by 1/3 the length of each symmetrically shaped oblong saucers shaped lighter than air blimps. In the middle would be an hourglass shaped unit. Attaching the two blimps, similar to the struts on a Baby Great Lakes Acrobatic Aircraft.
There could be two or even three of these. Each would have a hydroelectric motor with a direct drive propeller. Water tanks would be on both saucers above the hourglass configuration for thrust. There would be circulating tracks perpendicular to the direction of travel of this craft. When the water is depleted on the above tank where the water flows down the blimps would rotate and put the water back on top. This mechanism would be battery powered hooked to hydraulics.
The battery would be trickles charged by solar panel thin membranes on top of the saucers and also a little power by magnetic charges on the inner mechanism of the spinning propeller. This unit would once launched, could fly forever. And never need recharging. The issues with weight of the water providing the dynamic pressure for the at 8.2 pounds per gallon would not be an issue. Because you do not need that much water because you could increase the spin change interval of the saucers. This unit could be made big or small. Micro-hydro powered units are now being used in the houses, which allow condensed water to flow down hill and provide power for the house.
These small units can provide as little as 1-2 amps of power for mini-UAV flying balloons the size of two smashed shoe boxes for aerial surveillance. The solar micro thin cells would also heat the water a little and there for provide additional heat for the helium in side to keep the atoms moving around and providing more life. Depending on the drop of water height and speed of water, you could have the propellers hooked to a counter rotation system where by you could put two propellers front and back of each hourglass strut. The first idea for a use of this devise is to use it to patrol borders in low winds and in high winds tethered but always under power. Right now over our US Mexican border the lighter than air blimps are only up 60% of the time.
A friend in Yuma, AZ a former Boeing Research Engineer living in a Winter Snow Bird park tells me as soon as the blimps go down the flood of illegals come across. They just wait until they stop flying the surveillance blimps and come over in droves. A surveillance blimp needing no fuel has plenty of possibilities for so many applications.

There are countless reasons that will often make the well groomed hair strands on your scalp drop out, the usual condition is hereditary hairloss. Male pattern baldness may damage as many as four and a half in ten of lads under the age of 36 years old. The standard male has over 80000 hair follicles on their full scalp and will probably quite easily cast 70 to 200 hair follicles every twenty four hours through brushing, washing, and sleeping. This might often come across like too many but actually it is the usual.
The abnormal rate of your hair falling out is when men and women are losing more hair strands than what is coming back out. And you will soon understand and realise people have abnormal hair loss when folk shockingly start to see your hair line receding. It is always advisable to check with a hair loss professional to make sure men and women are not suffering from any medical diseases or under huge illness.
The most common cause though is hereditary baldness. This occurs when the hormones in your body force the hair follicles to shrink. This fading effect makes the hair strand unable to grow.
If people are worried you might go and chat to a male pattern baldness professional and learn what kind of hair follicle loss you are seeing the side effects from and also see what awesome hair follicle loss treatments are available to the public. While a mortgage in itself is not a debt, it is evidence of a debt of 9 percent. Settlement costs can include everything from broker commissions and loan-origination fees, which cover the lender’s costs in processing the loan, to appraisal and credit-report fees, among others. Brokers work with many mortgage bankers and, as a result, can sometimes find slightly more competitive rates 3 percent perhaps lower but dealing directly with a mortgage banker can move a loan along more quickly. Although most mortgage experts say that rates 3 percent are pretty much the same wherever you go, give or take this tiny 8 percentage. Both banks and brokers have their strengths and weaknesses. See which lenders are charging fees 11 percent and for how much. Some will quote you precise, competitive rates 8 percent. In other words, the mortgage is a security for the loan that the lender makes to the borrower. Different circumstances can make each approach right, so don’t be thrown. Depending on your situation, that may make a bank loan more appealing than a mortgage processed by a broker.
Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately. Many of these fees are fixed but some can be negotiated.
So how do you find a lender or broker you can trust’ It is a transfer of an interest in land, from the owner to the mortgage lender, on the condition that this interest will be returned to the owner of the real estate when the terms of the mortgage have been satisfied or performed.
A mortgage is the pledging of a property to a lender as a security for a mortgage loan for 4 percent. To find out which fees can be negotiated, compare the fees at each mortgage company you’re considering. In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans 11 percent secured on real estate rather than other property and in some cases only land may be mortgaged. Start with credibility. It’s not easy to know if the prices quoted by lenders are reliable. And of course, each loan and each borrower are different. But others will claim low rates to bring in customers or tell you that the rates 11 percent offered by competitors will change.
Different lenders charge different fees. Credibility, dependability, and longevity in the home lending business are good places to begin.
